What is Word Search?

Word Search is a classic find-a-word puzzle: a grid is filled with letters, and a list of hidden words is tucked inside it. The words can run horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, and either forwards or backwards. Your job is to spot each one and trace it out.

It is one of the most relaxing puzzle formats around — no math, no strict logic, just pattern spotting. That makes it a great warm-up, a screen-friendly break, or a calm way to wind down.

How to play Word Search

  • Pick a theme: Summer, School, Animals, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Each loads a fresh grid of hidden words.
  • Find a word from the list, then drag across its letters — from the first letter to the last.
  • Words can go in any of eight directions, including diagonals and reversed.
  • When you trace a word correctly it locks in with a highlight and gets crossed off the list.
  • Find every word to clear the board.

Drag works the same with a mouse or a finger, so the game plays the same on desktop and mobile.

Word Search tips

Scan one row or column at a time and look for the first letter of a word you still need. Less common letters are the easiest anchors — find the lone letter, then check the eight directions around it.

For longer words, look for distinctive letter pairs rather than trying to read the whole word at once. Once you catch part of it, the rest of the line usually falls into place.

Why play Word Search?

Word Search is a gentle workout for visual scanning and focus. Because it has no fail state and no timer pressure here, it is friendly for all ages and a good first puzzle for newer players, while themed word lists keep it fresh for regulars.
