How the reaction time test works

Tap the panel to start. It turns red — wait. The moment it flashes green, tap as fast as you can. Your reaction time is shown in milliseconds. Tap too early while it's still red and you'll get a "Too soon!" — just tap again to retry.

Each go is recorded, so you can watch your best and average over several tries. The more rounds you play, the more reliable your average becomes.

What's a good reaction time?

For a simple visual tap test like this, most people land around 250–300 ms. Anything under 250 ms is fast, and consistently under 200 ms is excellent. A few things move the number around:

  • Input lag. Touchscreens and wireless devices add a little delay versus a wired mouse.
  • Anticipation. Your brain can't fully pre-plan because the green appears at a random moment — that's the point.
  • Focus and fatigue. Reaction time drifts when you're tired or distracted, so results vary across the day.

Tips to react faster

  • Rest a finger near the panel so you're not moving from far away.
  • Watch the whole screen, not one spot — peripheral vision catches the color change quickly.
  • Stay relaxed. Tensing up to "go fast" usually makes you slower; calm focus beats a hair trigger.
  • Take several tries and judge yourself on the average, not a single lucky tap.
