How to play Mahjong Solitaire

Mahjong Solitaire is a single-player tile matching puzzle. The board starts with 144 layered mahjong tiles. Your goal is to remove every tile by matching pairs.

A tile is open when no tile sits on top of it and at least one side is free.
Match two open tiles with the same face.
Flower tiles match any other flower tile. Season tiles match any other season tile.
If you get stuck, use a hint or undo your last move.

The board is dealt so at least one solution exists. You still need to choose the right order, because removing the wrong pairs can leave the board without open matches.

Tips

Work from the top layers first, especially tiles that cover many others.
When two identical pairs are open, remove the pair that frees more tiles.
Save rare tiles until you can see whether they unlock a blocked area.
Use undo as a planning tool, not only as a mistake button.
